Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is today on his first international agenda after being elected president of Brazil and, at the stand organized by the governors of the Amazon, made a short speech about the resumption of Brazil’s protagonism in the world.

“I am here to tell you all that Brazil is back at the COP! Brazil is coming out of the cocoon that it was subjected to for four years. Brazil is not an isolated country”, said the new president, who has already started to resume negotiations with heads of state from all over the world.

Before his speech, Lula was received by Helder Barbalho, governor of Pará, who read a letter from the Consortium of Amazon Governors to Lula and asked the president-elect to offer Brazil to host the COP, a request accepted by Lula.

“Let’s talk to the UN Secretary-General so that the next COP can be held in Brazil, in the Amazon. I think it’s important that the people who defend the Amazon know the region and the concrete reality. #COP27″, sayed Lula in your Twitter account.

Lula also reinforced the importance of resuming the democratic dialogue between the instances of power, with an articulation between the federal, state and municipal governments. It is not possible that a president of the Republic doesn’t meet with governors, doesn’t talk to mayors”, he stated.

The president-elect also reinforced that he will not measure any effort to convince people that a tree standing is worth more than a tree cut down without any necessity and reinforced his commitment to end hunger, with the destruction of the forest and with the suffering that the indigenous people are living.

At 5pm in Egypt Lula will make an official statement at the COP where he promised to announce measures that he will take as president-elect.
