The reduction of coal use will be a great challenge for the major powers. When gathered at the G-20 meeting in Rome last week, leaders made a commitment to contain climate changes and, above all, to limit global warming to 1.5 ° Celsius. Therefore, they will have to stop public investments in the generation of energy with the use of coal.

But many countries still use fossil energy sources or coal, such as China, the United States, and Australia. Including in a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) has already demonstrated this concern, warning in particular about the possibility of coal use increasing by 4.5% in the post-pandemic economic recovery phase.

China, India and Australia have already demonstrated resistance to the goal that, besides aiming to reduce the use of the mineral, also recommends the end of the construction of new power plants based on it. The governments of Turkey, Russia and Saudi Arabia are also not very willing.

Experts say that these countries fear that this agreement would quickly lead to the cutting down of the use of other fossil fuels, such as gas or petroleum. According to Dow Jones, a jump in fossil fuel prices has recently led several countries, including China and the UK, to depend more on coal to operate their industries and secure their electricity supplies.
