Yanomami Association denounces two isolated indigenous were killed by miners
Basta de sangue indígena derramado! Ajude a reverberar ao mundo esse genocídio
On Tuesday (2), the indigenous association Hutukara announced yet another serious attack against the Yanomami people, which will certainly reverberate around the world due to the seriousness of the fact and the recurrence of attacks.
According to the note published by the Hutukara, two isolated indigenous were assassinated by miners who are living illegally in Yanomami territory. The deaths occurred about two and a half months ago, but since they are isolated peoples, they were only reported to the Hutukara on Monday (1) by leaders of the Apiaú Community.
The people who live in isolation within Yanomami territory approached a mining area known as the Black Belt – which is close to the community – and when they tried to expel the invading miners, they were killed. According to the Hutukara, they shot arrows at the miners, but the miners had firearms.
The Hutukara communicated Security forces, Funai and MPF and hopes that the deaths will be investigated and that there will be justice. In the same place, in 2019, two other indigenous from the same community were killed. According to the Hutukara, with the deaths this year and in 2019, the house-collective of Moxihatëtëma has lost 5% of its population. There are information that about 80 people live there.
Davi and Dario Yanomami, indigenous leaders of the region, are on the way to COP26 to denounce all kinds of violations of their rights and the invasion of their territory by more than 30.000 illegal miners.
