The UN Conference on Climate Changes received the largest Brazilian indigenous delegation of its history. In total 40 representatives of different tribes arrived to closely follow the unfolding of COP26, and also denounce the Brazilian misrulings and put pressure on leaders of countries who make decisions vertically that impact their territories.
In the group, the leader Alessandra Korap from the Munduruku tribe said they are in Glasgow to speak about the Amazon and their lands, “and do unmask the government representatives that arrive here and declare that Brazil defends the environment, that is defending the indigenous population. This is a lie, they never defended the environment, if they were to defend it, they would set limits to indigenous land. We are here to oppose this genocidal government”, said she.

The Black Coalition for Rights, that encompasses 250 organizations, social movements and black researchers in Brazil also went to COP26, as well as representatives from traditional communities who are part of the delegation of the National Coordenation of Quilombos Articulation (Conaq). They are in Glasgow to denounce to the world issues regarding social vulnerability of black people and defend the importance of the communities in the preservation of their territories and thus fight deforestation and emission of greenhouse gases.

Representatives from Black Coalition and Conaq also have na active participation in the agendas of the Conference (Ninja Media)
It is important to stress than more than ever the voice of extractive indigenous populations, quilombolas and riverbank dwellers have to listened to, taking into consideration that it is impossible to think about environmental well-being without stressing the knowledge and contributions of this people in the cure of the planet
