British Ambassador Peter Wilson said the COP26 Presidency expects the Brazilian government to present a detailed yearly plan to fight and end illegal deforestation in Brazil by 2030. Wilson said he also expects Brazil to set more ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse effect emissions.
In April, Bolsonaro committed to reducing carbon emissions and deforestation by 2030. However, no plan has been presented so far. Meanwhile, CO2 emissions have risen 9.5% in 2020 during the pandemic and now represent the highest level of emissions in a period of 14 years
On the other hand, the British Ambassador praised the Brazilian energetic matrix for being clean and using ethanol in transportation, which reduces transportation-associated emissions when compared to many other countries.
